Goode Walks can help you cope with the stresses of a busy life – while also enjoying the great outdoors.
Connecting with nature and spending a couple of hours outdoors a week can improve both our physical and mental wellbeing. Add that to the benefits of physical exercise to our wellbeing, and you can see why regular walking can be so good for you.
Feeling part of something bigger like the natural world supports wellbeing and good mental health. Being immersed in it as you exercise can improve your mood, reduce negative feelings and stress, and boost self-esteem. Walking and the outdoors – both are immensely beneficial for our physical and mental health and overall wellbeing!
Spending time in green spaces can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. Walking and being outdoors in nature can lift your spirits and help you cope with the stresses of a busy life. Just an hour walking outside is good for you on so many levels – our moods, alertness and sleep patterns are all impacted positively.
Regular activity like wellbeing walking can help:
- Reduce your stress and anxiety levels
- Improve social wellbeing, meeting new people
- Boost brainpower and cognitive function
Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance our wellbeing. Getting out for walks also plays a role in preventing the development of mental health problems and in improving the quality of life of people experiencing mental health issues. Goode Walks owner Julian Goode is a Mental Health First Aid England qualified mental health first aider, equipped with the skills to support his own and others’ wellbeing – and happy to discuss and openly support mental health issues.
Another element easily factored into wellbeing walking is mindfulness – a way of paying attention to the present moment, helping you to become more aware of thoughts and feelings and being better able to manage them as a result.
Goode Walks’ wellbeing walks can introduce elements of mindfulness, such as mindful walking, mindful breathing and mindful movement to use as tools to help manage your wellbeing and mental health. Julian has completed the NHS-approved digital mindfulness course from Be Mindful. And the Mindfulness for Wellbeing and Peak Performance course from Monash University.
…Walking and the outdoors - both are immensely beneficial for our physical and mental health and overall wellbeing
At Goode Walks the ethos is firmly that walking is suitable and beneficial to everyone, and that being outdoors increases your wellbeing hugely (Julian has passed the Nature Connectedness course from the University of Derby). Green spaces promote mental wellbeing and increase the quality of life for people with mental health needs – and Goode Walks can be part of your journey, providing support, advice and a non-judgmental attitude with every step you take.
Wellbeing Booster
Being out of doors is a prime time for boosting your activity levels, and research suggests that doing physical activity in an outdoor, ‘green’ environment has greater positive effects on wellbeing compared to physical activity indoors. Book even a short (1-2hr) Wellbeing Walk to feel the benefits.
Woodland wellbeing
Woodlands are fantastic environments to be in for anyone wanting to reduce their stress levels. Get out for a woodland wellbeing walk for anything from a couple of hours to a half day – we’ll find the perfect woodland area to help you realise the positive health benefits.

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. Being out walking in a natural environment, your senses can create an overall sense of wellbeing – smelling the flowers and touching the trees; listening to birdsong; feeling the ground beneath your feet… to achieve that wellbeing buzz.
